"Tap royalty" (The New York Times) Ayodele Casel continues to capture the exuberant and tenacious spirit of tap dance with a world premiere for The Joyce stage. Directed by long-time collaborator Torya Beard,this electrifying program revisits and filters highlights from Casel's two-decade repertoire through the sounds and spirit of 1990s Hip-Hop and R&B. At the heart of the program is the 20th Anniversary of Audrey, Casel's tribute to Dave Brubeck, Honi Coles, and Cholly Atkins, danced in its original context.
